a poem by Marcus Slease– the sound/ visual domain of this piece reminds me of Matthew Barney a la The Cremaster Cycle— about sex, or sexual, but also about effort and the effort of sexuality. Similarly, along these lines, this poem contains something of the troubled selfhood/I-ness/subjectivity of Lester’s (& Patrick Herron’s, and I’s) Be Somebody, which I once wrote a terrifyingly naive review of to submit to the author(s).
I hope Patrick reads this and sees that I’m still thinking about 0s and 1s. I hope Marcus “I love you I love you I love you/what’s your name/pink hot fluid…” and I hope Matthew’s Cremaster Cycle cycles through Vancouver sometime soon.
